The reason I’m applying for this course is the ability to practice and improve my craft in a structured environment, which I have found in my experience to be the best way I learn. I think the entirety of the course will be of benefit to me, and improve my already existing skills.

I would take the opportunity to code faster and more cleanly, better in-line with standards of the field, and using industry-standard tools for project organization. I’d also like the opportunity to code more collaboratively, understanding and altering other peoples’ code; which is not possible in solo dev, or in small projects where having too many programmers can slow progress rather than speed it up. Additionally, while I’ve had no problems prototyping, I’d like to make them better and cleaner so they can more clearly represent the vision of the game I’m hoping to make.

I feel I would benefit from the longer-term studio style module of the course. Working with the same people over a long span would help highlight my strengths and weaknesses as a designer, as well as build good habits working as part of a team, which is lost in solo dev or short, game jam-length projects.

The course would give me ample opportunity to network with professionals, experienced industry veterans, knowledgeable Academics, and other developers, designers and programmers on the course; all of which will be incredibly helpful in starting and maintaining a career in the games field.

The opportunities to build games is the most appealing part of the course overall. Both to make a stronger, more representative portfolio; but also to do the thing that I love and think that I am best at.
